A/B Split Testing – Website Optimization

How Does Website Optimization Work?

Website Optimization – A/B Test ANYTHING.

Every site I build includes an A/B split testing system with powerful insights.

 Website Optimization Made Easy

WHAT IS WEBSITE OPTIMIZATION A/B TESTING?
A/B testing is a randomized marketing experiment where one or more elements such as a headline, lead capture page, postcard etc. are pitted against another. Viewer behavior is tracked during the test and the results are analyzed based on key performance indicators.

In other words, it is comparing two distinct designs or variations against each other with normal (random) viewers, while tracking the outcomes and analyzing the resulting data to determine which version affects the measurements of success more positively. If the goal of an A/B test is to increase sales, and the data shows the variation produces better email list sign-ups but lower sales, you wouldn’t keep that design. The test gave you valuable insight and you know you then need to analyze the data to try to determine how you can improve upon it next time.

Over time you will discover what works and what doesn’t, eventually (with persistence) you will start to see some success and positive website optimization will result incrementaly in your conversion rate (or whatever other key performance indicator is desiredfrom your A/B test). This process is referred to as continuous optimization, and it is a practice that successful marketers have been using as the fundamental foundation for their startegic marketing success.

WHY SHOULD I DO A/B SPLIT TESTING?
Ask any smart, successful marketer and they will tell you they are always testing. How else will you know whether or not something is working unless you test variables?

Not Testing Isn’t Smart
It’s actually pretty simple. You have traffic coming to your website anway. You might as well get them to help you determine what is working and what isn’t. And most importantly what element(s) can be improved over time to increase your bottom line.

Your Results Are Measurable
With every A/B test you are able to gather valuable knowledge to help you improve your offer. This will increase your confidence as your results are discovered.

Targeted FOCUS
Measured results obviously help you to focus your energy where it is the most productive.

Incremental Profits
It may not be nesscesary to throw out everything and start from scratch. Eespecially when you can do an A/B test to determine what improvement(s) can be made incrementally. This is the core of the A/B testing to determine what works and what needs to be improved upon.

Reduced Risk Factor
The data always tells the tale. You have to embrace it. This doesn’t mean it has to be difficult to gather. With an A/B test you can quickly gather enough data to reveal where you are peaking or where you need work. If you don’t test you won’t have any data with which to intelligently determine if where you are is as far as you can go. The post card example I shared in the first video is an excellent example of reducing risk while testing first and then rolling out the winner!

HOW MANY VARIABLES SHOULD I TEST?
You only want to test two variables at a time. For example let’s say that you want to test a lead capture page and your desired goal is to see which page gets the most people to opt in. Obviously your effort should only be on your desired focus. If you also try to test which converts into sales then your metrics will be off and your test results won’t be accurate. Likewise you should only test two versions of your lead capture page at a time. Once you have a clear winner between them you can always go back and do another A/B test with your winner versus another page etc. Then once you know you have a high conversion opt in page, then you can switch your focus to testing other elements such as your site header, sales video etc.
HOW IS MY TRAFFIC DIVIDED?
Unique visitors (by IP address) to your website are served each test variable in an alternating fashion. For example, if you were testing landing pages (shown in the example image to the left) and you received 2,000 visitors, 1,000 vistors would see version A while the other 1,000 would see version B. The clicks of ALL visitors are measured and provided to you so you can easily and quickly see which outperformed the other!
IS THERE AN EXTRA FEE FOR WEBSITE OPTIMIZATION?
No! It’s a built in feature of the theme I use to build sites. The only thing I ask is that you purchase the theme through my affiliate link.

I will design variable modules for you to test or show you how to do it yourself. I will also show you how to quickly and easily track your split testing results anytime you want.

HOW MANY PAGE VISITS DO I NEED TO MEASURE RESULTS?
To get the best measureable results of an A/B test, you have to be sure the test has reached statistical significance — the point at which you can have at least 95% confidence or more in the results.  Otherwise you can’t be sure the results accurately reflect a clear winner. I reccommend a minimum of 1,000 page visits per variable being tested. If for example you are testing two opt-in pages you would run the test until you have received a minimum of 2,000 page visits. The longer you run the test the more accurate your results will be.
DOES A/B SPLIT TESTING NEGATIVELY AFFECT SEO?
No. There’s a false myth that A/B split testing hurts search engine rankings because it could be classified as duplicate content, which search engines don’t look kindly upon. This myth is absolutely false. In fact, Google’s Matt Cutt advises running A/B split tests to improve the functionality of your site.
WHAT SHOULD I TEST?
Typically the focus of A/B split testing is

Calls-to-Action
Headline
Images
Audio / Video

However, you will be able to run tests on ANYTHING on your site!

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I RUN A/B SPLIT TESTING?

It depends on whether or not you want to settle for the results you have or want more. You should always be striving to get the absolute best website optimization you can achieve. I suggest running a test between two variables to determine a winner. Then run the winner against another variable to make sure it still wins etc.

HOW DO I SEE RESULTS OF MY A/B SPLIT TESTS?
Your stats are easily visible with a simple mouse click! I’ll show you where to go to see them. You will be able to monitor everything you are testing in real time.

I'm often asked by clients if there's a way they can show their appreciation to me for always being available to help empower them for real success. For those who wish to show me some love, here's a link to my Amazon wishlist. Thanks and know that every kind act is greatly appreciated and never forgotten.

You should assume an affiliate or reseller relationship exists and that when you make a purchase, I will receive a commission.
